Packing Tips

Start packing as early as possible to avoid last-minute stress.
Use boxes of similar sizes for easier stacking and organization.
Pack heavier items in smaller boxes and lighter, bulky items in larger boxes.
Fill each box completely without overpacking to help prevent damage.
Clearly label every box with its contents to make unpacking faster and more organized.
Seal all boxes securely with heavy-duty packing tape.
Wrap dishes, glassware, and other fragile items individually with packing paper or tissue.
Pack fragile items separately from heavy objects whenever possible.
Use sturdy boxes that can safely support 20–30 pounds.
Wrap mirrors, artwork, and picture frames in protective cardboard and label them "Fragile."
Tape drawers closed before moving and use them to store lightweight items such as clothing or linens.
Maximize space by placing soft, non-fragile items inside large appliances before moving them.
Bundle long-handled tools such as shovels, rakes, and brooms together for easier storage.
Declutter before you move by donating or disposing of items you no longer need.

Disassemble furniture when possible to save space and keep hardware together.
Protect furniture by placing cardboard on the floor of your storage unit and using furniture covers.
Clean and thoroughly dry refrigerators and freezers before storing, and leave doors slightly open to prevent mold and odors.
Drain gasoline and oil from lawn mowers and other small-engine equipment before storage.
Wipe metal tools and bicycles with a light coat of oil to help prevent rust.
Store books flat in sturdy boxes and protect important documents with plastic liners to reduce moisture exposure.
Cover mattresses with protective mattress bags or plastic covers before storing.

Place cardboard or pallets on the floor to help protect stored items.
Leave a walkway so you can easily access your belongings.
Keep frequently used items near the front of the unit.
Create a simple inventory or map of where everything is stored.
Leave a few inches of space between your belongings and the walls to improve airflow.
Stack similar-sized boxes together, placing heavier boxes on the bottom and lighter ones on top.
Store mirrors and framed artwork on their edges in protected areas.
Stand mattresses upright to maximize floor space.
Cover furniture and other exposed items with blankets or protective covers to reduce dust.
Store sofas upright when appropriate to save space.
Always lock your storage unit securely before leaving.
